Driving the Byway

The byway winds its way through seven counties of southwestern Virginia. It starts in Pocahontas on the Virginia/West Virginia border (northwest of Bluefield, WV), then proceeds southeast to Bluefield and then generally southwest on US 19 through Tazewell County. It continues northeast on various routes through Slate, Vansant, and Harmon in Buchanan County, southwest through Fremont, Nora, and Trammel in Dickenson County, and dips into Russell County where it starts a more complex set of loops and spurs at St. Paul. The loops go through Wise, Scott, and Lee Counties, and through the towns of Coeburn, Norton, Big Stonegap, Drydan, Duffield, Clinchport, Fort Blackmore, and more.
