Colorado River Headwaters Byway
Three Lakes, CO

Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain, and Lake Granby together offer visitors a chance to enjoy over 150 miles of shoreline. Boating, sailing, and fishing are all popular activities on the lakes. Grand Lake is a glacier-carved, chasm-filled natural lake, while Shadow Mountain and Lake Granby are both reservoirs. These reservoirs hold water from the upper Colorado River, and then the water is used throughout northeastern Colorado cities and farmlands. Recreational activities on and around the lake include camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and sailing. Lake Granby is known for its mackinaws, rainbows, browns, and kokanee salmon. In the winter, the lake is also a popular place for ice fishing.
